DB2's Got Talent - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

April 5th, 8:30 PM

Today was ' the ' day for Mohan, Ember, Chirs and Eric - The top 4 finalists in the DB2's got talent 2013. Today's session also comprised some great knowledge share on ' All about IDUG ' . If you had attended the live webinar today then you would have probably planned by now for attending IDUG Orlando this year - What IDUG Orlando had for this year was extremely well presented by the IDUG volunteers. Cool !!!

When Scott's computer screen flashed the results in the form of bar graphs for the DB2's got talent contest, I could easily make out who backed the first place. But with the 2nd, 3rd & 4th, well I had to narrow my vision and I almost bumped into my laptop screen as it was very hard to tell who backed the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th place. The vote counter for these ranks were so close to each other that it seemed almost impossible to tell by looking at it for the first time.

I don't intend to bump your head, here are the results for the DB2's got talent contest 2013-

# Rank 1 - Mohan

Mohan backed the first place with a good margin of votes. He was greatful for his organization for the support and thanked DB2's got talent and the judges for their efforts. He is yet to plan as to which IDUG event he looks forward in attending to.

# Rank 2 - Eric

Eric baked the second place. Eric thanked DB2's got talent for creating a platform to show case DB2 talent worldwide. He will be planning to attend the DB2 symposium this year.

# Rank 3 - Ember

Ember backed the third place. Ember was pleased to be in the top 3 and thanked all of them for voting and allowing her to showcase her talent on the show. She has opted the color as black for her Apple i-Pad

# Rank 4 - Eric

Eric backed the fourth place. Eric was thankful to everyone who voted for him, the judges and the DB2 community.

Summary :

All the contestants this year were fabulous and they had nothing to loose when they presented their topics. Everyone was a winner when he/she vouched for participating and educating others. I would like to wish everyone all the very best for their future and I hope to see many in the upcoming IDUG's, events and conferences which I plan to attend if my time & work schedule permits me.

Signing off ! It has been a great year for all so far. Take care !

DB2′s Got Talent – Finalist Round 4

March 22nd, 9:30 PM

Today my Journey at the DB2's Got Talent 2013, International Technical Contest on DB2 comes to an end. I presented a best practice topic on Virtual Database Administration. But due to the low number of votes and good presentations during the March 15th show and today I couldn't make it to the TOP 4 this year. Surprisingly, I did not feel lost - Usually it happens to me all the time when I come this close at winning and loose it by an inch. In fact the disappointment was instantly overruled by the immense joy that I have experienced ever since the contest flagged off. They say - " Excel, success comes automatically " - That's exactly what this show had in line for all the contestants. I would like to thank you all for making it possible for me to reach this far. This show has given me the '' confidence " to explore, learn, present, connect with people, blog, and the list goes on. I will make it a point to share my day to day experiences with DB2 on z systems here. I can now confidently present DB2 topics at my work, I have got a lot of requests from my colleagues to present at DB2 info sharing sessions already and will continue to do so as long as I am DB2 DBA for z/OS. Thanks to DB2's got talent which brought the ' ME ' in me. Being amongst the top 5 at an international contest is one of the proudest moment of my life.

The Host - Scott Hayes, It wouldn't have been possible without him. If you attend the DB2 Night shows - you will exactly feel the same.

The judges - Susan Visser, Klaas Brant, Martin Hubel are exceptional and are responsible for bringing up fresh waves in the ocean of DB2

Last but not the least I wish the TOP 4 - Ember, Eric, Chris & Mohan the very best - These guys rock on DB2

What's it like to be amongst the TOP 5 at an International technical contest on DB2 ? It's a feeling I can never explain. I tried to cover a vast topic exploiting the features of DB2 V 9 on z/OS - DATA COMPRESSION. I managed to deliver most of the content in just 5 minutes.

Download the replay and know more about data compression using the below link. Do not forget to vote for the best presentation  -

March 8th, 9:30 PM

Excitement and an endeavor to share something new today. Yes ! A wonderful evening with the contestants from all over the world and the awesome judges of the DB2's got talent event. These presentations have given me a boost in life and improved my presentation skills to a level, I myself cannot imagine. Today's topic - '' Saves me IN & locks you OUT " . Using DB2 concepts you can manage to accommodate just 1 row in a DB2 table - Interesting isn't it ?

It's so amazing how an usual day at office turns into an exciting day when the sun sets. I was prepared and presented a topic in the DB2's got talent finalist round 1. The topic that I presented was '' DML Scanner " - A method I used in my day to day work to scan for any data manipulation language used in the COBOL code. The other 8 participants in the contest were amazing as well.
