Bangalore DB2 Users Group Meet : June 29th 2013

You may call it a busy weekend if you traveled all the way to Bangalore, attended the Bangalore DB2 Users Group meet at IBM-Block A - Embassy Golf Links on Saturday, you had to rush for some pending work the next day ( Sunday ) and write a blog post about to keep the moments cherished.

But its was totally worth it spending some quality time with quality people who made it to this meet.

It all began at the memory lane, IBM block-A cafe where I worked earlier. A brisk registration and we were set for a day of learning, networking and knowledge sharing.

Here comes, BIG DATA :

BIG Data Analytics, is the buzz word everywhere. Big Data lit up the cafe when Sriram Raghavan from IBM delivered a fantastic 50 minutes presentation on Big Data Analyitcs. He explained the 4 v's of Big data with great slides. How IBM research is looking at data on a wider perspective. It was fun on the go and I along with the rest of the folks thoroughly enjoyed the insight

DB2 10.5 Blu Acceleration :

Talk about CLEVER, its DB2 10.5 : Prashant Dagar from IBM took us into the DB2 10.5 to see how it was built. Got a 10 TB database and DB2 10.5 blu, well I would say you have the best combination so far on earth. More like artificial intelligence built into the kernel which takes care of the database on its own, yes automatically. He explained its user friendly features with great slides and answered a lot of questions which grabbed attention. The one question I loved the most was : '' Does DB2 10.5 end the career of a DBA ? " , the question was raised due to the automatic features.

I need a REORG :

If LOAD RESUME YES is the most dangerous in the DB2 for Z world, REORG is the most lengthiest. You start your session with such great one liners, you get the crowd on your side. Thulsiram from OSServices walked through REORG types, why and when to REORG and more. It may be something we know already, but the user response on the Q & A session of REORG was tremendous. There were discussions on the fly and the session lasted for 75 minutes.

Federated Q-REP :

Thulsi already consumed 15 minutes of my presentation time, you need humor when its the end of the day to keep the blood and oxygen flow on and that's how Diwakar Kale from Fidelity triggered federated Q-replication. This was my first replication session and I enjoyed it thourouly. Some real awesome animated slides, I love to see those slides again and again. Self explanatory slides are the best in the world of presentations. Got a Key slide ? Take your audience within. I am sure, all the attendees now know what Q-REP is ?

You may ask for more, we will give you more. That's what user group meet is all about. You can meet the Bangalore Db2 Users Group Team on their official website : www.db2bug.org

Thanking everyone who made it from Chennai, Mumbai and rest of cities who made it for this wonderful event. Bangalore RUG Organizers, without you - it would have been another day on facebook ( for me ). THANK YOU !!!
