For those who could not make it to IDUG India - Bangalore, here is a small write up on the event – Hope this write up brings enthusiasm for attending future IDUG events held across the world.
What is IDUG ?
IDUG is an acronym for International DB2 Users Group. It was founded in the year 1988 and is a not-for-profit organization. Yes – These guys play an awesome role in providing high quality education and services to make your DB2 life simpler. The blogs, podcasts, publishing, events and much more are covered under one roof. IDUG is a one stop solution to look into what’s coming up in the field of DB2 and find answers, papers, presentations, videos and much more. IDUG celebrates 25 years of knowledge sharing

India IDUG 2013 - March 20th, Bangalore
After a long wait IDUG is back in India. The hosts were surprised to see such huge numbers ( DB2 – z/OS, DB2 – LUW, SYSTEM Admins ) attending the seminar with enthusiasm and an urge to explore some awesome new features of DB2 V10 and V11. BIG DATA was covered in style and the panelists were quite successful in making a layman ( like me ) who has never bothered looking at BIG DATA understand how it works in a simplified way with easy-to-understand charts.
The People who made the day memorable @ Vivanta By Taj, Bangalore
Surekha Parekh : Linkedin, Facebook, twitter – you will find her at every other DB2 workshop, conference, seminar and events. She is the Marketing Program Director for DB2 on z/OS
Chris Crone : IBM Distinguished Engineer whose team is responsible for developing the DB2 optimizer, worked on 11 DB2 releases – Should I say anything more about him ?
Pallavi Priyadarshini : DB2 Connect – Ask her anything about DB2 connect
Jim Reed : BIG DATA – Great insight
My Colleagues : Nikhil, Srini, Yeshwanth, Bala and Kishore – Good friends are a great ad on to such events
The Proceedings
Great presentation by Chris – Its nice when someone speaks about concepts you are currently working with and having problems. Question asked – DB2 does not have a column drop feature, why ?? . Chris’s answer – DB2 V11. He has the capability to make the most complex topic look like 2 + 2, yeah – It’s 4 ! Some nice insight on BIG DATA by Jim. DB2 Connect high availability covered by Pallavi, she also explained about how you can manage connecting your database from Java without DB2 Connect
